Branding

Look like the obvious choice, at any size.

A great business with a weak brand looks like a gamble. Igloo is a New Zealand branding agency that builds the name, the identity and the voice that make a small team read as the established option, so buyers pick you before they have even spoken to you.

Why branding matters

People judge the business by the brand, in seconds.

Before anyone reads a word about what you do, they have already sized you up on how you look and sound. A dated logo, an off-the-shelf template feel, and a voice that could belong to anyone quietly tells buyers you are the safe skip, not the safe choice.

Challenger vs incumbent

The giant plays it safe. You get to be memorable.

Big brands are run by committee, so they sand off every edge until nothing offends and nothing sticks. A challenger has the one thing they gave up: the freedom to have a point of view. That is where the memorable brands come from.

The incumbent
  • Safe, sanded down by committee
  • Forgettable, blends into the category
  • Coasting on a name earned years ago
  • Slow and expensive to change
You, with Igloo
  • A clear, ownable point of view
  • Distinct, and hard to forget
  • Looks established from day one
  • Consistent across every touchpoint

Brand identity package

What is included in a brand identity package?

Every agency says “full identity” and means something different, so here is exactly what leaves the studio with you. The same voice work also feeds our SEO content writing, so the brand sounds like itself on page fifty, not just page one.

Logo and mark

The primary logo, alternate lockups for tight spaces, and a standalone mark that still reads at sixteen pixels in a browser tab. Delivered as SVG and PNG in every variant you will realistically need, tested small and large before you ever see it. If it only works on a business card, it does not ship.

Colour and type system

A palette with real contrast rules, so your brand stays legible and accessible on screens, not just in a sunny mockup. Type pairing chosen and licensed for the web, with a hierarchy: what a headline looks like, what body copy looks like, and what never gets used for either.

Voice and tone

How you sound, written down. Hero lines, service copy patterns, proof language and the words you never use. A practical voice guide your team can follow on a Tuesday afternoon, so the brand does not dissolve the first time someone else writes an email.

Brand-on-the-web kit

The pieces most brand books forget: favicons at every required size, Open Graph and social share images, email signature, a 404 page that stays on brand, and motion cues for how the identity moves on screen. This is the difference between a brand that lives in a PDF and one that lives on the internet.

Guidelines and handover

One practical guideline document, the source files, and everything licensed in your name. You own the brand outright. No retainers required to access your own logo, ever.

Brand identity design NZ

A brand built for the web, not just the brand book.

Most brand identity design in NZ is judged in a boardroom PDF and falls apart the moment it hits a real website. An identity that only works in print melts on contact with the internet: the logo blurs at favicon size, the colours fail contrast, the type weighs a megabyte.

We design the other way round. Every identity is built to survive a fast, live site: marks tested at sixteen pixels, type subset and self-hosted, motion designed within a performance budget so the brand can move without dragging your site speed down with it. It is the same discipline behind our web design, where the identity and the build ship as one thing.

And because we run our own brands, nothing here is theory. Spruce and Datum were both designed and built in this studio, and both are live right now. This page is part of the system too: run it through Lighthouse if you want the receipts.

How we build a brand

Carve. Build. Weather.

One method, three moves. A brand that lasts is decided early, in how sharply we carve the position.

01

Carve the position

We find the space in your market nobody owns, and the point of view only you can hold. That becomes the spine of the whole identity.

02

Build the identity

Name, logo, colour, type and voice, designed as one system. Distinct on purpose, and built to look established from day one.

03

Weather the trends

We build for the long run, not this year’s style. A brand that still looks right in five years, with guidelines to keep it sharp.

Technology capabilities

Craft that survives contact with the internet.

Identity work here is shaped by the same hands that build the sites, so every capability below has been proven on a live launch, not a pitch deck.

  1. 01 Naming Brand names, service names, campaign names and category positioning.
  2. 02 Positioning What the business is, who it is for, and why it should win.
  3. 03 Messaging systems Hero lines, service copy, proof language, CTAs and conversion copy.
  4. 04 Visual identity Logos, marks, colour systems, typography and layout rules.
  5. 05 Design systems Reusable components, cards, buttons, spacing, section styles and UI patterns.
  6. 06 Figma Design direction, wireframes, layouts and interface systems.
  7. 07 Web typography Font pairing, hierarchy, readability and brand tone.
  8. 08 Motion direction Scroll movement, hover states, transitions and premium interaction design.
  9. 09 Brand guidelines Rules for using the identity consistently across the website and content.

Branding cost NZ

How much does branding cost in NZ?

Nobody should have to book a call just to hear a number. These are the ranges branding work in NZ usually lands in, whether it is a first identity or a rebrand. Your figure comes down to scope, which we agree in writing before we start.

A distinctive logo, colour and type, with the core files to launch. The sharp start, not the full system.

Brand + website
from $9k
6 to 10 weeks

The identity and the site that carries it, built together so the promise and the proof match.

Indicative ranges, not a quote. We scope the exact number with you up front, in writing, before anything begins.

Branding FAQs

The things people ask first.

What is the difference between a logo and a brand?

A logo is a mark. A brand is the whole impression: the name, the colours, the type, the voice, and the feeling someone gets in the first three seconds. We build the system, not just the badge, because the system is what makes you look established.

How much does brand identity design cost in NZ?

Our logo and essentials package starts from $1,500. A full identity system usually lands between $4k and $9k, and brand plus website from $9k. The exact figure comes down to scope, which we agree in writing before anything begins. The ranges are indicative, not a quote.

Do I need a full rebrand, or just a refresh?

Often just a refresh. If the name and equity are sound, we sharpen the identity rather than throw it away. We will tell you honestly which one you need, because a rebrand you did not need is expensive and disruptive.

Can you do the website as well as the brand?

Yes, and it is where the brand earns its keep. We build the identity and the site together so the promise and the proof match. Most of our work is exactly this: a brand and the site that carries it.

How long does a brand identity take?

A focused logo and essentials package is two to three weeks. A full identity system is usually four to six. We agree the scope and timeline up front, in writing.

What makes you different from a design agency?

We have built brands that had to earn their own money, not just win an award. Spruce runs on an identity and site we made ourselves, and holds a real 4.9 Google rating from 131 reviews under that brand. We design brands to work, because ours had to.

Will my brand look like everyone else in my industry?

No. We deliberately study the category, find the visual clichés everyone leans on, and build you something that stands apart on purpose. Blending in is the one thing a challenger cannot afford.

Do we own all the brand files and fonts afterwards?

Yes. You get the source files, the exported assets, the guidelines, and fonts licensed in your name, not ours. If we parted ways tomorrow, the brand would leave with you. Holding files hostage is a strange way to treat a client.

Ready?

Let’s make you unmistakable.

Tell us who you are up against and how you want to be seen. We will show you the space you can own, and the identity that claims it. No hot air, just the plan.

Not sure yet? Ask for a free brand teardown: send us your current site and we will tell you, plainly, what your identity says about you today and where it leaks trust.
